What is a Mission Critical Facility and Mission Critical Design?
February 7th, 2024
WHAT IS A MISSION CRITICAL FACILITY?
Simply put, a mission critical facility supports and provides essential business functions that if interrupted would result in a negative impact to on-going operations. The disruption to business-as-usual activities can have severe business continuity and financial implications and, in some cases, potentially life-threatening impacts.
Mission critical facilities include Data Centers, 911 and Emergency Operations Centers, Communications and Broadcast Facilities, Hospitals, Health Science, and Medical Facilities, Power Plants and Generation Facilities, as examples.
WHAT IS MISSION CRITICAL DESIGN?
Mission critical design is the application of redundant, reliable, and highly available solutions that provide assurance to a business that the heart of their operation can maintain continuous operations despite an outage. Outages or interruptions can be the result of a natural or man-made extreme event that can be caused by weather, utility disruptions, power spikes, surges, or voltage dips, equipment failure, operational, procedural, or human error.
Mission critical design is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Each business, facility, and operation has differing mission critical needs based upon their operational requirements. The result, a unique and specifically tailored solution.
