Sustainability

Energy Efficiency and Sustainability is incorporated into every project

More than ever, energy utilization of all projects and especially Data Centers and other Mission Critical Facilities has become a greater concern as utility costs and power densities continue to climb.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

SIGMA7 has analyzed hundreds of new and existing Data Centers and other Mission Critical Facilities in a variety of different climates to develop tools for designing and optimizing energy efficient cooling systems. Whole building energy modeling, integrated Revit software with Green Building Studio, and Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) modeling studies allow us to develop holistic energy use models to develop, design, and deliver an efficient infrastructure that suits a project's needs and requirements.

SUSTAINABILITY

SIGMA7 design group is a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). We have Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional staff members within all of our professional services disciplines. Designing ‘Green’ is no longer a luxury, it is an expectation and a responsibility to ensure the viability and energy efficiency of our project solutions, future health and well-being of our environment and the reduction of our reliance on non-renewable fossil fuels. Our team always implements design solutions utilizing sound engineering practices that utilize energy efficiently and provide cost savings for our clients while neither compromising performance nor the environment. SIGMA7 has evaluated the benefits and constraints of many design scenarios in developing the most efficient use of energy and resources from the initial programming phases through final design, construction documents, start-up and commissioning.

Our teams have developed, designed and delivered projects that are LEED Certified by USGBC as well as projects that comply with and incorporate many aspects of energy efficiency, occupant well-being, environmental and resource responsibility without formal LEED certification.

CFD Modeling Studies

As part of our design process we simulate and test the data center layout and operation utilizing Computational Fluid Dynamic Modeling. CFD modeling provides the design team with valuable information and our client's the ability to 'test-drive' the facility. We are able to simulate airflow below the floor while taking in to account obstructions and the depth of the access floor. We can study the temperature at various elevations above the floor, alter the size (TONS) and airflow (CFM) from the CRAC units, add or remove hot and/or cold aisle containment, and even simulate component failures.
